The purpose of this document is to describe how to configure an IMS sub-system (or Server) that will run under Micro Focus Enterprise Server. To run all the examples in the SimoTime suite of programs it will be necessary to populate the catalog with a minimum number of Partitioned Data Sets (or PDS's).

This section provides the information needed to configure a JES Sub-System running under control of Micro Focus Enterprise Server.

The server used by the batch applications will be called SIMOBATA. At the bottom of the home page for Enterprise Server Administration select the "ADD" button. The following describes the primary configuration options needed to submit, execute and review jobs that have been defined (or scripted) using the Job Control Language (JCL Members and Procedures).

Enter a Server Name, select the Working Mode and Click the" Next" button. Click the Radio button for Micro Focus Enterprise Server with Mainframe Subsystem Support and Click the" Next" button a second time.

The following shows the next group of configuration options. For items not shown take the default entry options.

Note: For the following and if not required then un-check the TN3270 and ISC listener boxes

Click the" Add" button.

The "SIMOBATA" server should be added to the Enterprise Server. When the home screen is redisplayed click on the "Edit" button, select the "MSS" tab, select the "IMS" tab and then enter the following configuration options for the IMS Subsystem.

Note: For the following remember to check the box for the "IMS enabled".

The IMS sub-system will be added to the "SIMOBATA" server. When the screen is redisplayed click on the "DB" tab and the following should be displayed.

Click the "Apply" button.

Click the "Apply" button and the IMS DB support will be added to this Enterprise Server configuration.

The starting and stopping of a server that provides application support to a number of business users is a task that is usually reserved for operations or systems personnel or it is a scheduled task. Micro Focus provides the commands to start or stop a server and these commands may be explicitly called and executed. This can be very useful in the unit test environment but it is not a practical solution for a larger, multi-system, multi-user environment. Therefore, the model mainframe example provides a Windows command file that sets various environment variables and starts the Batch Server with IMS support.

The SYS1START command file calls the ENV1BASE command file to set commonly used environment variables. It then calls the SYS1BAKConsole command file to provide a backup of the previously created "console.log" file. It then starts the specified server based on the first parameter of the command line. The following is an example of the command line syntax.

C:\SIMOSAM1\SYS1\LOADLIB> SYS1START SIMOBATA

Some of the jobs included in the SimoTime suite of samples use Procedures (PROCs) and INCLUDE statements. Some of the jobs reference parameter files. These are stored in directories on the LUW platforms. These directories need to be mapped to a PDS with an associated catalog entry. If the number of PDS's used by an application is small it may be easier to manually create the catalog entries using the browser interface of the Micro Focus Enterprise Server.

If an automated and repeatable process is required or manually creating catalog entries for a large number of PDS's would be very time consuming then a programmatic approach may be a better solution.

This link provides detailed information to Identify, Document and Create Catalog Entries for Partioned Data Sets (PDS's) This approach uses a list of PDS Members that are managed in an Excel Spreadsheet and saved as a Comma-Separated-Values (CSV) file. This provides for a documented, repeatable process.

A suite of "User Validation" test jobs is provided and may be used as a test to confirm the Batch Server with IMS support is configured, the catalog entries for the PDS's is correct and the Batch Server is started and ready to accept jobs.
