Table of Contents Previous Section Next Section Introduction

The purpose of this document is to describe how to configure the XA Resources for a Server that will run under Micro Focus Enterprise Server. To run all the examples in the SimoTime suite of programs it will be necessary to populate the catalog with a minimum number of Partitioned Data Sets (or PDS's).

We have made a significant effort to ensure the documents and software technologies are correct and accurate. We reserve the right to make changes without notice at any time. The function delivered in this version is based upon the enhancement requests from a specific group of users. The intent is to provide changes as the need arises and in a timeframe that is dependent upon the availability of resources.

Table of Contents Previous Section Next Section Define the XA Resources

This section provides the information needed to define or configure the XA Resources running under control of Micro Focus Enterprise Server.

The server used by the COBOL programs that contain embedded "EXEC SQL" syntax will be called SIMOACCA. At the bottom of the home page for Enterprise Server Administration select the "ADD" button. The following describes the primary configuration options needed to connect to a relational data base and execute programs that contain embedded SQL statements.

Server Name:
SIMOACCA
 . . .

 Cancel

 Next>>

Enter a Server Name, select the Working Mode and Click the" Next" button. Click the Radio button for Micro Focus Enterprise Server with Mainframe Subsystem Support and Click the" Next" button a second time.

The following shows the next group of configuration options. For items not shown take the default entry options.

Note: For the following and if not required then un-check the TN3270 and ISC listener boxes

Server Name:
SIMOACCA
System Directory:
C:\SIMOSAM1\DEVL\SYS1\LOGS\SIMOACCA
 . . .
Creation Options:
Create TN3270 listener

 using port

Create ISC listener

 using port

Configuration Information:
[ES-Environment]
BASEAPP=C:\SIMOSAM1\DEVL
MFSYSCAT=$BASECAT\CATALOG.DAT
MF_CHARSET=A
Description:
A Batch Server with an ODBC Connection to Microsoft Access

 Cancel

 <<Back

 Add

Click the" Add" button.

The "SIMOACCA" server should be added to the Enterprise Server. Click on the "Edit" button, select the "MSS" tab, select the "XA Resources" tab and then enter the following configuration options for the SQL or XA Resources. From the newly displayed screen click the "Add" button to add a new XA Resource.

ID:
ACC1
Name:
ACC1
Module:
C:\SIMOSAM1\DEVL\SYS1\LOADLIB\ESODBCXA.GNT
Open String:
DSN=ACC1DEVL,USRPASS=Admin,CONNECTNAME=ACC1DEVL
Close String:

Description:
Customer DB for DEVELOPMENT using ODBC to MS ACCESS
Enabled:

 Add

 Cancel

Click the "Add" button.

Note: Some environment variables are set prior to starting the server. This needs to be done since some environment variables will be used by ES/MSS and other third-party technologies. The decision was made to define the shared environment variables in one place rather than replicate in the two separate environments.

Table of Contents Previous Section Next Section Create Catalog Entries for PDS's

Some of the jobs included in the SimoTime suite of samples use JCL Members, Procedures (PROCs) and INCLUDE statements. Some of the jobs reference parameter files. These are stored in directories on the LUW platforms. These directories need to be mapped to a PDS with an associated catalog entry. This section will describe the Jobs that may be submitted to create the catalog entries for the PDS's.

Job Name Description
JCL Members The PDSMKJJ1.JCL Member will create the catalog entry for the library that contains the JCL Members.
JCL PROCLIB The PDSMKPJ1.JCL Member will create the catalog entry for the library that contains the JCL PROC's (or Procedures).
JCL INCLUDES The PDSMKIJ1.JCL Member will create the catalog entry for the library that contains the JCL Include Members.
JCL PARMLIB The PDSMKCJ1.JCL Member will create the catalog entry for the library that contains the Control Cards (also referred to as the PARMLIB).

Table of Contents Previous Section Next Section Company Overview

SimoTime Technologies was founded in 1987 and is a privately owned company. We specialize in the creation and deployment of business applications using new or existing technologies and services. We have a team of individuals that understand the broad range of technologies being used in today's environments. Our customers include small businesses using Internet technologies to corporations using very large mainframe systems.

Quite often, to reach larger markets or provide a higher level of service to existing customers it requires the newer Internet technologies to work in a complementary manner with existing corporate mainframe systems. We specialize in preparing applications and the associated data that are currently residing on a single platform to be distributed across a variety of platforms.

Preparing the application programs will require the transfer of source members that will be compiled and deployed on the target platform. The data will need to be transferred between the systems and may need to be converted and validated at various stages within the process. SimoTime has the technology, services and experience to assist in the application and data management tasks involved with doing business in a multi-system environment.

Whether you want to use the Internet to expand into new market segments or as a delivery vehicle for existing business functions simply give us a call or check the web site at http://www.simotime.com
