Introduction

The Java/JSP Connection provides a suite of sample programs describing various coding or programming techniques using the Java Software Development Kit from Oracle/Sun. The Web Server used in this suite of programs is Apache/Tomcat.

We have made a significant effort to ensure the documents and software technologies are correct and accurate. We reserve the right to make changes without notice at any time. The function delivered in this version is based upon the enhancement requests from a specific group of users. The intent is to provide changes as the need arises and in a timeframe that is dependent upon the availability of resources.

Web Server Configuration

Java Programs

This section provides examples of Java Programs (or Servlets) that describe and demonstrate how to accomplish a variety of tasks using a variety of coding techniques.

Get Date/Time, Write to a File

This Java Program will get the system date and time. It will write a message to a file (i.e. add or append a record). The message will be preceded by a date/time stamp.

Java, COBOL and Micro Focus

A fifteen (15) day "Discovery-Session and Proof-of-Concept" project was completed by SimoTime Enterprises during December, 2001. The objective of this project was to determine the practicality of using existing COBOL programs or parts of programs to backend an Internet frontend written in Java. This project used the Java Developer's Kit (JDK) from Sun Micro systems, Micro Focus Net Express for the COBOL and a Lite Web Server from Gefion Software.

Utility Programs

Hex Dump with EBC and ASC

This java utility program will describe and demonstrate techniques for accessing or reviewing files of known and unknown structure and content are included. The viewing (or human observation) is provided in a hexadecimal (or hex) dump format with a possible EBCDIC or ASCII translation.

MC T112 File Conversion

The SIMOTIME T112 Conversion Utility Program will convert the EBCDIC-encoded, T112 file to an ASCII/Text file with the bit-sensitive information expanded to text strings. The Master Card or MC T112 file is a clearing file for financial transactions. The record structure uses an Integrated Product Messages (IPM) format with variable-length records. It is based on the ISO 8583-1993 specification.
