Partitioned Data Sets Catalog Entries for Enterprise Server |
The SimoTime Home Page |
This document will describe how to create a list of the Sequential Files that are used by an application or group of applications. Once a list is created it will be used to programmatically create the entries in the Micro Focus catalog.
For this example we will use Microsoft Excel to create and maintain the list of names for Sequential Files

From within Excel save the PDS List of Names and Properties to a CSV file. Execute the command (CATPDSE1.cmd) to convert the Line Sequential file with comma values to a record Sequential file with fixed field lengths. Submit a job (CATPDSJ2.jcl) to the JES Server to create a catalog entry for the new file that contains a list of Partitioned Data Sets that need to be created.
The following shows the process flow of the CATPDSE2.cmd member.

Note:1 The JCL member (MAKEAPDS.JCL) that is submitted to the Internal Reader is a generated member. |
Create Catalog Entries of the Partitioned Data Sets for a Micro Focus Environment |
The following jobs will create the catalog entries for Partitioned Data Sets (PDS's) based on a user-defined list of PDS names.
The following member (CATPDSE2.cmd) is the command to create catalog entries using the PDS List File.

This job (CATPDSJ2.jcl) will add a catalog entry for each Sequential Data File specified in the PDS List File. A program is executed that reads the PDS List File and submits user-defined JCL or generated JCL to the Internal Reader (INTRDR).

The purpose of this document is to focus on the task of populating a catalog with the entries for Partitioned Data Sets or PDS's. This document may be used to assist as a tutorial for new programmers or as a quick reference for experienced programmers.
In the world of programming there are many ways to solve a problem. This documentation and software were developed and tested on systems that are configured for a SIMOTIME environment based on the hardware, operating systems, user requirements and security requirements. Therefore, adjustments may be needed to execute the jobs and programs when transferred to a system of a different architecture or configuration.
SIMOTIME Services has experience in moving or sharing data or application processing across a variety of systems. For additional information about SIMOTIME Services or Technologies please contact us using the information in the Contact or Feedback section of this document.

Explore how to Transfer all the members within a PDS to a Windows Directory using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). This approach uses the IEBPTPCH Utility Program (available on a ZOS Mainframe System) to extracts all the members from a PDS and concatenates the members into a single sequential file. Each member in the file will be preceded by a record that contains the member name. The single sequential file is then transferred to the target system.

We appreciate hearing from you.
SimoTime Technologies was founded in 1987 and is a privately owned company. We specialize in the creation and deployment of business applications using new or existing technologies and services. We have a team of individuals that understand the broad range of technologies being used in today's environments. Our customers include small businesses using Internet technologies to corporations using very large mainframe systems.
Quite often, to reach larger markets or provide a higher level of service to existing customers it requires the newer Internet technologies to work in a complementary manner with existing corporate mainframe systems. We specialize in preparing applications and the associated data that are currently residing on a single platform to be distributed across a variety of platforms.
Preparing the application programs will require the transfer of source members that will be compiled and deployed on the target platform. The data will need to be transferred between the systems and may need to be converted and validated at various stages within the process. SimoTime has the technology, services and experience to assist in the application and data management tasks involved with doing business in a multi-system environment.
