FPDUMP01 Hex Dump for File Properties Repository |
The SimoTime Home Page |
The generated program will create a Hexadecimal dump file (or HEXDUMP) of user-defined records in the File Properties Repository that is VSAM, Key Sequenced Data Set (KSDS).
The FPDUMP01 program was generated using SimoTime Technologies. The FPDUMP01 program will compile and execute on a Linux, UNIX or Windows System with Micro Focus Enterprise Developer/Server, version 2.2 or later.
The FPDUMP01 program should compile and execute on a ZOS Mainframe. The JOB statement and the data set names (DSN's) will need to be changed to comply with security and naming standards on the host mainframe system.
Note: The unit testing was done on a Windows System with Micro Focus Enterprise Developer configured for an ASCII-encoded environment.
We have made a significant effort to ensure the documents and software technologies are correct and accurate. We reserve the right to make changes without notice at any time. The function delivered in this version is based upon the enhancement requests from a specific group of users. The intent is to provide changes as the need arises and in a timeframe that is dependent upon the availability of resources.

Batch Processing, A Hexadecimal Dump Program |
The VSAM, KSDS for this example is the File Properties Repository. The record length is 1,024 bytes and the primary key is 54 bytes and starts in position 3 of the record.
The following shows the HEX-Dump of user-defined records in a VSAM, KSDS.
The following is a Hex-Dump of two records in the File Properties Repository. The records were selected by using a control file that contained a list of primary keys.
The 1st line is the position indicator.
The 2nd line is the possible ASCII character or symbol.
The 3rd line is the high-order nibble of the byte for the Hex-dump.
The 4th line is the low-order nibble of the byte for the Hex-dump.
The 5th line is the possible EBCDIC character or symbol.

The purpose of this document is to assist as a tutorial for new programmers or as a quick reference for experienced programmers that are interested in creating a repository of information for non-relational data structures. Links to additional documents and programming examples are provided.
In the world of programming there are many ways to solve a problem. This documentation and software were developed and tested on systems that are configured for a SIMOTIME environment based on the hardware, operating systems, user requirements and security requirements. Therefore, adjustments may be needed to execute the jobs and programs when transferred to a system of a different architecture or configuration.
SIMOTIME Services has experience in moving or sharing data or application processing across a variety of systems. For additional information about SIMOTIME Services or Technologies please contact us using the information in the Contact or Feedback section of this document.

The File Properties Repository is a VSAM, Key-Sequenced-Data-Set (KSDS). The record length is 1,024 bytes. The primary key is 54 bytes starting in position 3 of each record. The key is an alpha-numeric string and is typically the Data Set Name (DSN). Each record in the repository contain information about a non-relational data structure. A non-relational data structure may be a VSAM Data Set, a Record Sequential File (RSEQ), a Line Sequential File (LSEQ or ASCII/Text), a Partitioned Data Set (PDS) or a Generation Data Group (GDG).
The following links focus on the File Repository Requirements and Management tasks.
Explore how to manage a Repository of Information about Data Files used by an application or suite of applications. This link will focus on non-relational data structures such as traditional files, VSAM Data Sets, Partitioned Data Sets (PDS's) and Generation Data Groups (GDG's). The repository is a VSAM, Key-Sequenced-Data-Set (KSDS).
Explore an example of a generated HTML document that contains the details (or properties) of the non-relational data structures used by an application. This link will focus on non-relational data structures such as traditional files, VSAM Data Sets, Partitioned Data Sets (PDS's) and Generation Data Groups (GDG's).
Explore how to load a Repository of Information about Data Files used by an application or suite of applications. The load process will read a user-defined file of information and update the File Properties Repository that is a VSAM Key-Sequenced-Data-Set (KSDS). This link will focus on non-relational data structures such as traditional files, VSAM Data Sets, Partitioned Data Sets (PDS's) and Generation Data Groups (GDG's).
Explore a CICS Sample Program for accessing the FPMASTER File. The FPMASTER File contains information (or properties) about the non-relational data structures used by the sample applications. The repository is a VSAM, Key-Sequenced-Data-Set (KSDS)
The following links focus on items that relate to the File Repository Requirements and Management tasks.
Explore An Enterprise System Model that describes and demonstrates how Applications that were running on a Mainframe System and non-relational data that was located on the Mainframe System were copied and deployed in a Microsoft Windows environment with Micro Focus Enterprise Server.

We appreciate hearing from you.
SimoTime Technologies was founded in 1987 and is a privately owned company. We specialize in the creation and deployment of business applications using new or existing technologies and services. We have a team of individuals that understand the broad range of technologies being used in today's environments. Our customers include small businesses using Internet technologies to corporations using very large mainframe systems.
Quite often, to reach larger markets or provide a higher level of service to existing customers it requires the newer Internet technologies to work in a complementary manner with existing corporate mainframe systems. We specialize in preparing applications and the associated data that are currently residing on a single platform to be distributed across a variety of platforms.
Preparing the application programs will require the transfer of source members that will be compiled and deployed on the target platform. The data will need to be transferred between the systems and may need to be converted and validated at various stages within the process. SimoTime has the technology, services and experience to assist in the application and data management tasks involved with doing business in a multi-system environment.
Whether you want to use the Internet to expand into new market segments or as a delivery vehicle for existing business functions simply give us a call or check the web site at http://www.simotime.com
