This document provides a listing of the COBOL source code for the CP0512C2 Utility Program. The requirement for this example is to create a data file compare program that will compare a sequential files with a VSAM, KSDS. Both the file and KSDS have 512 byte records. The compare program will compile and execute on an IBM Mainframe or a Micro Focus supported environment.
We have made a significant effort to ensure the documents and software technologies are correct and accurate. We reserve the right to make changes without notice at any time. The CP0512C2 will compare the content of a sequential file with the contents of a VSAM, KSDS. Both the sequential file and the KSDS have 512 byte records. The positions within each record to be compared are defined at execution time within a control file. The results are written to the JES Output Spool and to a log file.
This example includes a JCL Member that describes the steps to execute the compare program. The following flow chart shows an overview of the process.

A Record-by-Record Compare of a KSDS and a Sequential File |
This control file (SYSUT3) example contains three records that define the positions within the records to be compared and what to do when a "NOT EQUAL" condition occurs. The following shows a sample of the control file records.
